Design Process
1. Identify the problem
FIRST provides a set of rules and a description of the game.
Learn the overall concept of the rules to understand the restrictions.
2. Research the problem
Search up information on the issue.
Determine different possible materials that can be used on the robot.
Use other resources online that can solve the issue.
3. Developing Ideas
It takes a few days for teams to brainstorm of strategies.
Think of any strategy or ideas that comes to mind.
Drawing or sketching pictures will help illustrate.
4. Refining Ideas
Narrow down to 2-3 reasonable solutions.
5. Analyzing the possible solutions
Determine whether the solution will require be costly and durable (try not to go over the budget).
During this step, team members must be in agreement in order to produce the best possible solution.
6. Make a decision
Pick a solution and pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses
7. Build and test the design
When building the robot, make sure the whole team understands the process of fixing the problem. Also, does the solution work? Does it need to be redesigned to be more efficient?
8. Presenting the solution
Have diagrams or information on how the solution meets the requirements and needs. It would be best to have the team informed because on the day of competition, everyone would know what to say if a judge asks.
9. Redesign
If there are any minor problems, or if the solution does not come out the way planned, then the solution can be changed to meet the needs.
